Ex MPTE Jumbo Atlanteans bought by IoM Transport

The Jumbos were the second large batch of buses acquired from Merseyside PTE, the first came in 1979 when 14 of the 'L' class Atlanteans were purchased, successfully introducing double deck OPO to the Island.

The Isle of Man Passenger Transport Board (as the operation was then named), acquired no less than 35 former MPTE Jumbos between 1982-1984, putting 29 of these into service. The other six buses bought for spares only and dismantled at Hornby Dock prior to various units and spare parts being shipped to the Island. Buses stripped were 1161/1164/1166/1167/1168/1199 but 1162 got through the net and was the only bus from the second batch to go into service on the Island.

The following list which containing details of former MPTE jumbos after withdrawal by Isle of Man Transport. Most were now non-runners and have now been scrapped.

1202/1209 are engineless timekeepers huts for Southern 100 races.
1228 Bushy’s Brewery, Mount Murray.
1203/1192 derelict hulks, Jurby Airfield.
1181 latterly with the Manx Language Group, now privately owned.
1204 Andreas Racing Association, mobile timekeepers hut.
1212 engined hulk, farm at German, Nr. Peel.

In addition Jumbo 1177 was shipped to Northern Ireland after sale by IOM Transport for use as a timekeepers bus, and whilst it has now been replaced, was still owned earlier in 2001.

1208 Carried the Jurby Junk shop livery, Now scrapped after use by a Kids Dance troop vehicle in Manchester.
